What is CBG?
Cannabigerol is also known as CBG, the “stem cell of the hemp plant,” and the “mother of all cannabinoids.” CBGA, an acidic form of CBG, is converted to CBD and THC as the plant matures. Therefore, CBG is found in larger quantities in young plants and must be harvested at a critical point before this conversion process occurs. Similar to the more prominent and better-known CBD, CBG is non-psychoactive and does not produce a “high” as THC is known to do. CBG is recognized for its potential to reduce pain, fight inflammation and oxidative stress, ease nausea, promote gut health, improve mood, and help ease tense and tired and sore muscles. Those who use CBG find it to give an uplifting sense of positivity, a renewed feeling of energy, and relief from pain and anxiety.
While there have been more research studies conducted on the cannabinoids THC and CBD, current research is showing the exciting potential of CBG for a wide range of health benefits. Studies have demonstrated CBG’s potential for acting as a neuro-protectant and reducing the severity of neurological illnesses such as Huntington Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. It has also shown promise as a therapeutic option for various gastrointestinal diseases by reducing inflammation in the gut and promoting tissue recovery in the intestines. While many cannabinoids have anti-bacterial properties, CBG has been found to be one of the most potent cannabinoids against tested antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. CBG is also rich in antioxidants and has shown promise in skincare regimens to reduce premature skin aging and improve barrier function. Scientists continue to study CBG to determine what therapeutic potential it has in store based on properties already identified.
