Preserving History, Supporting Restoration: A Milestone for Walker Place

This week, Fingerboard Farm & Country Inn was awarded funding through the Rural Historic Preservation program to support continued maintenance and restoration of our historic inn — known formally as Walker Place.

This grant allows us to continue caring for a home that has stood on this land for more than two centuries.

And that matters deeply to us.

The History of Walker Place

Walker Place is a Federal-style home dating back to the early 1800s. Federal architecture, which became popular in the United States between 1780 and 1830, is known for its symmetry, refined brickwork, understated elegance, and balanced proportions.

Unlike ornate Victorian homes, Federal homes are restrained — built with intention rather than excess. Clean lines. Even spacing. Windows placed with precision. A quiet strength in its geometry.
